Rated 3 out of 5 by Yetanothernickname from More of a Liner Tried it, but it's really only a liner and is in fact displayed that way in store. It's very thin, and certainly not something a child can wear in winter in northern climates. I don't think the rating system is accurate here - this would not suffice in 20 degrees even walking, let alone for school type activities. Maybe a fall jacket, or for southern climates. On the pro side - it is very soft, child likes the style. But expensive for what it is.

Rated 1 out of 5 by ZenFrog from Not warm enough! This jacket is rated for +15°F to -10°F but both my girls are too cold when it's in the low 20s. It is wonderfully light and they will wear it around the house or in the car, but it is not sufficient for even a 20 minute walk to school in moderate cold. Colors are bright and fun but fabric is fragile and prone to rips. Feathers were flying after just a few days. Might be better for a warmer climate and less active children.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NCOutdoorDad from Love It This is going to be very similar to my review of the Girls' Pathfinder Waterproof Shell Jacket, which I also love. I camp and hike regularly and consider myself a bit of a gear head. I day hike with the family, but typically spend three to four days and cover 20-60 miles, depending on terrain, when I am out with my friends. I spend a lot of time at Linville Gorge and the Pisgah National Forest in NC. When my ten-year-old daughter expressed an interest in making longer trips "our thing," I was delighted. I was also very aware that going cheap or just going wrong on gear could lead to a bad experience that might end any interest she had in roughing it with me. I am very pleased that I decided to buy her a Girls Ultralight Down Jacket. My daughter and have gone into Linville Gorge three times since the jacket arrived, including overnights and daytime temperatures from the 50s down to the 20s. My daughter wore the down jacket under the shell jacket over easier terrain or at rest and wore the shell on its own over rough terrain and over lots of elevation. She also wore the down jacket alone on the move when the temperature started dropping in the late afternoon and evening. The jacket is warm and breathable, which is a good thing. You don't overheat when you are moving. When the wind is blowing, pair it with a shell. This jacket layers well. The outside fabric may seem delicate, but has not torn or ripped, even with regular use in rough terrain and conditions. We have had a couple of feathers pop through the fabric, but you can grab them from the inside of the jacket and pull them back in, no problem. You should expect this with any ultralight down gear. I spent a lot of money on gear for myself and I can tell you with confidence this jacket is a bargain for what you get. Most important, my daughter loves it! She wears it to school, wears it when she is playing, and otherwise regularly reaches for it over her other jackets and coats. Thank you L.L. Bean!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lhpp from Nice, but not the color shown I kept the jacket because it fits well and is light but warm. However the color is not at all as shown on the website, more like a deep magenta, not purple.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mommykins from Solid jacket My 11 year old daughter loves her jacket. Its warm but light weight. I have to tell her to take it off in the house. Its so comfortable she wants to keep it on. I have a tall 11 year old whose arms were way too long for the 8-10. The 12-14 fits great.
