Rated 4 out of 5 by LLBeanFan112 from GREAT - but size beware If your boy is young, this may not even be an issue! My very skinny but tall 11 yr old has outgrown his size 16 coats arm length. So I purchased this in an 18. But with only a T-shirt on under the coat, I noted the shoulder seams are already telling me he needs a bigger size and it's tight across the shoulder blades. He's so sad that I'll be returning it. It's really warm, soft, light-weight, nice sleeve length, just not broad enough in the shoulders. Again, if your buying a size 8/10, probably not an issue, but as the sizes increase, proportions in the coat for that sized person should also.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Yookamee from Warm & Versatile This is the 2nd version of this coat my son has worn. The first one was the older version and he was able to wear it for two winters, as the sizing was great. This year we had to go up to the next size, the 14/16 and it's slightly big (he's really still a size 12 for clothes) so I am confident this will last him a few years. He loves the fleece lining because it is super soft, as well as the pockets. I love that it is waterproof and can double as a rain coat in the summer. Since he wears it year round and for several years in a row, I feel we really get our money's worth.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Castineer from Great jacket, terrible sizing I've bought the cost annually for 5 years, and thought it would be a simple task to order the next size up for this winter. Nope. This coat (size 10-12) this the same size as last year's (size 8). I realized the issue when he tried it on, and when I held them together there was no difference in length or width between the two coats. Not sure what the reasoning would be in changing the sizing, or why there wasn't some sort of disclaimer. Should have read the comments.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Flyinggems from Buy Bigger We have been buying these 3 in 1 jackets for our kids for many years. We usually buy them a little big so they can get two seasons out of it. They currently have the 10-12 size. I read some of the reviews that mentioned that they were running small. So I ordered the XL (18). They fit them nicely but I will only get one season out of them. My boys are 12 years and are 5'1" plus and about 100 lbs plus and the jackets are just fitting them. We decided to keep them because of the price. We will purchase Men's jackets next time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by CDub113 from Comfortable jacket! The materials and bright colors in this jacket are great. My child loves it. That being said I noticed the arms are not in proportion to the jacket. They are a bit long which is great for growing room but the length of the jacket will be outgrown before the sleeves so we will get exactly one winter out of this coat unfortunately. Also, it's my fault but I didn't notice the hood was pack away and it's a tiny, unlined hood. When the hood is put on your head the large jacket collar is shoved in with it preventing a good fit. I wrongly assumed that a parka would have a nice warm (permanent) hood. I'm wary of the zipper not having any fabric behind it on the inside and wonder if it will keep out the bitter wind and cold snow this winter. We usually have no problems with LLBean products so I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised this winter!

Rated 4 out of 5 by TLPA from Great jacket, but beware of small size This is a great jacket with high quality material and solid construction. But the size runs quite small. We ordered 6/7 for our son who just turned 6. We feel that he will most likely outgrow this in a few months, which is what happened last year - he outgrew the previous version of this jacket (one size smaller) in the middle of last winter. My son is at ~70th percentile in height and slightly below average in weight. Returning it for exchange for size 8. Other than the size issue, the jacket looks great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by OneBostonian from Beware! Sizing has changed! This is a great jacket, but the sizing is way off! The 14/16 is the same size as an old 10/12 (which my son was wearing last winter). I had to order the XL(18) for my 11 year old son who is stocky and just under 5' tall. I'd still recommend the jacket. The fleece liner is cozy and warm and the garment is well-made. Veteran LL Bean customers just might be surprised by the tiny sizing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by jtskitty from Great coat but bad sizing My boys have older versions of this coat and they are great! They are outgrowing them so I ordered this coat in a bigger size. The new coat is exactly one size smaller so it will have to go back. I do like the newer inner fleece jacket but I do wish the coat was sized accurately and had more normal/neutral colors instead of the insanely bright ones.
